HURRICANE IKE!

Well, in case you haven’t heard, Hurricane Ike blew into the Texas Coast early Saturday morning.  It, like Hurricane Rita in 2005, brought a trail of devestation with it.  With Ike however, our neighbors to the west and southwest were affected more similiarly to our area during Rita and were harder hit this time.  As many of our neighbors to the South of us were hit hard in Rita, the blow they suffered with Ike is again unbelievable.  Our hearts go out to all of you near the Texas and Louisiana coastlines.

Durning Hurricane Rita, our close proximity to the Texas coast was better revealed.  We were reminded of the power the weather holds.  This time, as a whole, our area seemed to fair a little better than Rita.  We still have many without power.  Fortunately, most of Rayburn Country and Forest Hills area seems to be back up and running.  Our internet and satellite services seem to be doing fine.  We are having many people looking for rental properties.  If you are aware of any or would like to rent yourself, please let us know.  There are many people that are being displaced for quite some time.

On a more personal note and evidence of the wonderful neighbors you can have here in Rayburn Country area: our home did suffer a large oak tree through the middle of it.  However, thanks to our wonderful neighbors, very few of our personal items were destroyed.   We were not there during the storm.  Our neighbors called us and then came in and moved everything they could out of harm’s way to prevent further damage.  Since then, so many people have offered everything they could to help us.  This is truly evidence of the kindness of the people surrounding you here in Rayburn Country.  We do feel ever so fortunate in knowing our situation is still repairable as we are more aware everyday that others are not.

Again, to all of you that either are personally experiencing damage from the hurricane or have loved ones in that situation, our prayers are with you.
